Winter Garden
The garden looks lifeless
in February’s cold
and long deep frost,

twigs and branches stripped
by shifting freezing winds
now seem silent sentinels;

but to unburdened plants this time
of freedom from the weight
of flowers and fruit

gives time to swirl and turn
and twirl a dance of joy,
unfettered in the breeze.
